facebook.com :> 4chan.org :> 4chan is actually older than facebook and has a different purpose. While facebook is a social networking site (if you are looking for an alternative social networking site this might help) and helps you keep in touch with people you already know, 4chan is an anonymous image-board bulletin.
The alternative i am suggesting is in the activity itself. Give image-boarding a try!
google.com :> blekko.com :> Still in beta and invitation only, blekko is nevertheless nothing short of a breakthrough. The idea is to search only the relevant part of the web which google isn't doing as of now.
For example, if you have to search only blogs for a particular topic it is simpler to make rest of the web silent in your search results. In Blekko just add /blogs to your search query to do this.
Blekko explains itself more fully in this short video.
MS office :> WordPerfect :> Reviews by pcworld and cnet do a fuller job here than i am equipped with. My own recommendation comes due to the user-friendliness and intuitive deployment of features that is not present in the loaded MS Office esp. 2010. WordPerfect is not for everyone though.
